This is an in-person only event in the British Library Pigott Theatre. The launch event for the annual Kayd Somali Week Festival returns to the British Library. This promises to be an evening filled with conversation, music and celebration, exploring this year’s festival’s theme: Creative Worlds and the Environment. The host for the evening is film and TV executive Samira Musa. The Festival will be opened by H.E. Rushanara Ali MP, Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State in the Ministry of Housing, Communities and local Government. Also joining us for the evening will be scholar Dr Sada Mire, who will delve into the impact of climate change on heritage and culture. The evening will close with a live performance by the legendary Dur-Dur Band.
There will be a drinks reception from 18.00.
Dr Sada Mire is a Swedish-Somali archaeologist, art historian and presenter. She is Associate Professor in Heritage Studies at UCL and is one of 30 global writers and thinkers selected by the Hay Festival in 2017. The New Scientist magazine selected Dr Mire as one of its most Inspiring Women in Science of all time. Her work can be found in major international media including field documentaries and features with CNN, National Geographic, Chanel Four, the BBC, The Guardian, The Sunday Times, New Scientist, Discover Magazine, and Vanity Fair.
